When Dr. Killian was awarded the National Research Service Award stipend and scholarship, he was also given the position of research and training fellow at the Illinois State Psychiatric Hospital. This training lead to a unique opportunity for Dr. Killian to receive 3 hours of supervision for every 1 hour of therapy from 3 different supervisors giving him three different perspectives 3 on a 1 hour case. This provided a unique supervision opportunity to see psychological cases from 3 multiple perspectives such as: psychoanalytic, behavioral, family systems, gestalt, cognitive behavioral, client centered Rogerian, and psychopharmacological.
